| Commercial Marine Steam Turbine -
The GE Marine Main-Propulsion Steam Turbines and Ships
Service Turbine Generator (SSTG) sets are used on LNG Tankers, Oil
Tankers, MSC and Cruise ships worldwide. The propulsion turbines consist
of a high-pressure turbine and a low pressure turbine located
side-by-side. The rotors of both the high-pressure and low-pressure
turbines are flexibly coupled to the high-speed pinions of the
double-reduction gear. The reducing gear provides for a propeller speed
of typically 100 RPM. Turbine size can vary from 4,000 to 60,000 shaft
horsepower. Typically the turbines are equipped with an Integrated
Turbine Control (ITC) system which is designed to interface with the KMW
CP Propeller Control System to provide a suitable combination of
propeller pitch and propeller RPM.
There are two or more
SSTG sets per ship, each ranging in size from 500 to 5000 KW. The
turbines operate at high speed, typically 10,000RPM and the set is
divided into four major components; turbine, pump and governor unit,
gear and generator. The turbine rotor and quill shaft of the reduction
gear pinion are rigidly connected at the high-speed coupling. |
